Derek Lemoine

Associate Professor, Department of Economics
Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Research

Professor Derek Lemoine’s research considers the design of energy policy. His current work combines economic theory and computational methods to better understand the dynamics of optimal environmental policy and of energy systems. Among other topics, Dr. Lemoine has explored how the anticipation of future policies affects current energy markets; how to design subsidies to efficiently stimulate adoption of solar photovoltaics; the conditions under which policies to improve energy efficiency can actually end up increasing energy use; and how innovation and policy can each drive large-scale transitions in energy supply. He is faculty in the economics department and received his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources in 2011 from the University of California Berkeley. He is also a Research Associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research.
