The WEST Center is a world-renowned venue focused on water and wastewater treatment and monitoring, alternative energy and related technologies. WEST is co-located within the Pima County’s brand new 21st Century Water Reclamation Facility, “Agua Nueva.” WEST is also adjacent to reclaimed water recharge basins and constructed wetlands, all of which is part of a Water Reclamation Campus. WEST is unique in its ability to conduct the translational research necessary to advance the sustainable technologies of the future.
The WEST Center will advance water and energy related technologies by bringing together a multifaceted team of researchers, agencies, and private industries, which together will develop and implement state of the art sensor, treatment, and monitoring technologies. The team will bring expertise from cross-cutting disciplines to accelerate development/deployment of next-generation of technologies for promoting water and energy sustainability. The team will work intimately with social scientists, the community, and a diverse group of graduate students to increase reliability and public trust in the nation’s water systems while training next generation professionals for the jobs that demand advanced education in water and energy technologies. Because of the WEST center’s unique co-location with full-scale water treatment and renewable energy systems, our team will be able to develop and test advanced environmental technologies while providing a hands-on education and training opportunity for the community.
