Kirsten Engel is the Charles E. Ares Professor of Law at the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. Since arriving at the University in 2005, Professor Engel has served as a director of the Environmental Law Program at the Law College, which includes the Environmental Law Certificate Program. Known chiefly for her scholarship on federalism and environmental law, many of Professor Engel's more recent writings examine state, local and regional governmental responses to climate change and the role of renewable energy in meeting climate mitigation goals. Professor Engel was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2016 and 2018, and has served as a member of the Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee, as well as the Judiciary Committee.
